Differing Liquidities of Encaustic Art Wax Block Colours

Each of the encaustic art wax block colours behaves in a slightly different manner.

Setting the iron's temperature

Some are very transparent whilst on the other hand, some are completely opaque and dense (like white chalk hiding the black colour of a blackboard). In this range of waxes opaque colours are any that contain white and a couple more.

Use light liquid colours for fluid skies and darker stickier ones for foreground strength.

The liquidity or flow qualities of the waxes are different too. As a rough guide the lighter colours are more liquid (fluid) than the darker ones when they are all melted at the same temperature. Also the hotter the temperature the thinner the wax consistency.

IMPORTANT TIP
Set the iron's temperature
using the No. 8 Bluegreen colour
so that it slowly dribbles down the iron like this image shows.
