Poster: encaustic collection  (see this users gallery)

one of a set of twelve images created for a greetings card range at the start of the 1990's. the printed reproduction cards were all A5 images (148 x 210mm). this "gentle falls" was created by making the sky with the iron The landscape was also made with this tool, then the details of flowers, posts and so on were added with the the low heat stylus tool. the waterfall has been enhanced by using the wax blocks as crayon, to add colour over the underlying wax without heat. This allows overlaying rather than the molten merging that would happen if it were applied heated. such an approach can be fused in with heat - maybe hot air - later, but some blurring of detail and merging of colour can then occur too.
