landscape can be more easily measured by the eye when it contains familiar elements. a figure & a tree in this case. the relative size of each element contributes to the relationship of objects within space. the card is flat in reality, but the illusion of space & dimension is encouraged because we "know" about figures & trees, that they exist in 3D, so this must be a 3D place.


the sky & landscape were both done on the hotplate. Tree & figure added in with the the low heat stylus tool which had the drawing tip attached.
note: the "star" spots in the sky are caused by impurities in the wax that affect it's surface tension whilst molten - commonly called "fisheye" this was a problem with aartz wax & one of the things that led to it being discontinued as a product. despite this drawback the effect is useful here, so it is just a case of making the best of a bad thing!
