even a simple & bland landscape can gain interest & perspective when a couple of focal details are introduced. the figure has been made quickly using the tip of the iron. the darker contrast makes it more evident & a much stronger element. the perspective of depth has been formed by adding a relative object in a smaller scale (fence & gateway), making the eye perceive it as further away. also, the open gate allows the mind to offer a logical story - "person can go out through open gate" - thus the eye is led into the back distance of this former bland landscape.
