if wax artwork is created onto a non-absorbing surface, like the white encaustic painting card, then it can easily be transferred by ironing off onto fabric or other sufficiently absorbent materials. watercolour paper can offer some interesting effects through this approach. this image was first created on the encaustic card with the iron, then transferred onto the 300gms water colour paper in a similar manner to the method for fabric.

once on the new surface, water colours have been washed over the waxed areas. they tend to be repelled by the wax, so the actual water colours being applied illuminate the places that were unwaxed. great for abstracts or more formed & specific subject too. also good with silk & silk paints.
