absorbent papers of all types can be used with molten wax, but the first colour applied will soak into the fibrous structure of the paper and can not be moved around later. overlay is possible of course, but the best approach is to begin with the lightest colours being used. the thinner and harder the paper, then the less absorbency. even tissue or fabrics can be used.

this image contains a colour absorbed background with a metallic tissue technique insert applied.

the backing paper was splattered with some spots of wax by flicking the stylus or iron. the iron was loaded with the blue green purple colours & placed on edge, with the base-plate vertical, so that the colour dribbled down onto the paper. the iron was pushed slowly forward, keeping the lower edge pressed well down onto the paper, rather like a bulldozer. a trail of absorbed colour forms behind. the metallic tissue cutout was then stuck down in place by using wax underneath & iron over to melt and adhere it in position. this is a workable "glue" for collage work, especially if you can ensure it remains rigid afterwards by being fixed to a flat base.
