using the upturned iron as a mini hotplate, rest a card over the heated flat base plate and crayon on some wax colours that will work together and are to your taste. because the A6 card will not entirely fit on the hotplate all at one time then you may need to adjust your holding position of the card in order to get it all covered. once there is molten wax allover the card you need to tear a piece of scrap card on a straight edge - don't cut it - you want the rough torn perforated edge of the card because that is how the banded effects are made. once torn, just gently wipe the straight torn edge through the wax. it will behave like a squigee - wiping off much of the colour, but leaving bands or veins of differing thickness wax colour behind. wiggling the card as you move adds the zig-zag effect. this is a great and complex visual result, but very easy to create. looks good on larger card on a big hotplate too.
