colour mixing in encaustic wax paint is similar to all other basic colour mixing in that as the pigments blend they form predictable colours.


red + blue = purple
red + yellow = orange
yellow + blue = green


* add black or an opposite (other side of the wheel) colour to create darker tones and shades.
* add white to any colour to create pastel versions of varying lightness.
* add clear to any colour to weaken the pigment content and force a more translucent property.
