Poster: encaustic collection  (see this users gallery)

one of a set of twelve images created for a greetings card range at the start of the 1990's. the printed reproduction cards were all A5 images (148 x 210mm). this one, titled "new age spirit" began with the downward beam of light being created by the drag through method on the hotplate. the wax was melted in vertical bands, then the card was dragged down to become coated by the molten pool of wax. whilst still molten the coating of wax was then blown gently, using a hot air gun, making a smoother form. the watery lower portion is a sideways swipe through the same wax that created the light bands in the background. that is how the colours blend so well. finally the dolphin subjects were added with the the low heat stylus tool, as were the distant figures and the birds.
