Arts Encaustic ezine - latest information

Arts Encaustic On-line update 10 :10th October 2000
_______________________________
What's going on at Arts Encaustic?
Scroll down for expanded details....
I'm Michael Bossom and run this Arts Encaustic site. The idea is to ensure
availability of products and to create a growing and useful resource for
anyone interested in the fascinating activity that encaustic art offers.
Latest information is always on the update at
**************************************************
2. New "Tips" pages for helpful encaustic art hints
It was about time that we gave some hints and tips on the site so I've run a new script to provide some.  these are short simple and hopefully helpful pages that will build over time into a good and useful library of tips.  You can just view the tip of the day or search the whole thing if you wish. Take a look and if you have any tips you want to share I will put them in with a name check and email contact too (if you want one that is!)
3. Translation aid - French, German, Portuguese, Italian or Spanish
At the top of almost every page you will see a translation option for French, German, Portuguese, Italian or Spanish. Just select the language you want and after a little while the page should turn up in that language. Then any link you click on should also lead to a translated version.  This is an online translation robot and so it gives an approximate literal translation rather than a refined and perfect one. Sometime called "gisting" you basically get the gist of what is being said.  Well, fingers crossed!
4. Response to the New (June ezine) Video Encaustic Art "learn the skills"
"It's been really helpful", "I learned a lot", "..thought it was even better than the first video", and many more complimentary comments have come in from people who have used the new Learn the skills Video.

The idea was to let people take a collection of demonstrations, performed to camera in single takes, home for reference.  The video is not a top studio production but it has captured the information that many of you seemed to want, so feedback has been very positive.
The video covers most of the images shown on this page...

5. Upload Gallery progress did you put your images in the public upload gallery?
Have you had a look yet? We had to move the location so here is the final information for you.
Remember, you can upload your images onto this section of encaustic.com site along with your email address and a short description.
That means that lots of people can then see your work and contact you about it.
1. prepare the encaustic image you want to upload as a jpeg file (yourfilename.jpg) trying to keep it under 150Kb in data.
2use the upload facility to send it to our site.  www.encaustic.com/public/upscreens.html
Good stuff gets to stay and could be incorporated into long term pages.
If it goes wrong I will fix it from here so there's no need to worry about it going wrong : )
Enjoy and share your work online with others.
Encaustic images only please...thanks
6. Re-organization of the Arts Encaustic Forum
The forum is the best place to put your questions and get interaction with others who are interested in encaustic art.
If you prepare your comments off line then you can go online and cut and paste them quickly into the posting pages. This saves any pressures of cost, especially if it takes a while to write your piece.
All topics are now listed in a single forum to make it easier to browse and keep tabs on what's new.
7. USA users are enjoying the iron and wax techniques
As encaustic art gently begins its development in the USA, feedback from customers is very positive.
The USA website resource www.encausticart.com gives a beginners over-view of encaustic art and
the opportunity to ORDER SUPPLIES ONLINE.

8. Encaustic chat room - still lots of regular Friday night chats
The Arts Encaustic chat room is a place to check out at 9pm Friday
evenings BST (that's 1pm Pacific, 4pm eastern, 10pm Euroland).  People from the UK
and other nations all join in. Chatroom conversing is fun if a bit confusing at times.
The room is open at all times (index footer of all pages on the
encaustic.com site) so you can arrange to meet in your own time zone if
that's better.

9. What's coming up?
  • The online product Catalog has been updated to a new version of the software so enhancements will be added over the next few months - initially focusing on better product information.
  • New sections for product descriptions and extended information will be added.
  • "Step by step" examples of many techniques will be added over the next months. Initially these will be taken from the new video - Learn the Skills. Later further approaches and ideas will also be added.
  • Retirement - I don't think so.....
